About the Race
The MISH Experience is Extreme! Racers will begin the race on a kayak or paddleboard with a 3 mile open water PADDLE. Starting at the Terrace Bay hotel, the route will follow the protected Little Bay de Noc shoreline on Lake Michigan to the Gladstone Beach. Upon arrival at the beach, racers will transition to their bikes staged in Van Cleve Park. The BIKE portion of the race will take riders 13.5 miles through the City of Gladstone and up to Rapid River along Bay Shore Drive. Returning back to Van Cleve Park, racers will dismount from their bikes and finish the last stretch of the race on foot. Mishigamaa • "Great Water"
We know you're all wondering.."what the heck does MISH mean? Is it an acronym for something?"
MISH is short for the Ojibwe Native American word Mishigamaa, which is translated to"Great Water" and is where the state and the lake got their name. MISH started back in 2015 as a water sports rental business. When we first formed the business we wanted to come up with a name that had some meaning, but was also short and catchy, so Mishigamaa became just MISH (capitalized for aesthetics). As we ventured into endurance events in 2018, we thought that we'd carry through with the brand and MISH Events had a nice ring to it.
